Mendel Krafchik, 23, OBM

This past week, our JETS community suffered a terrible loss. Menachem Mendel Krafchik, one of our JETS alumni, tragically passed away in a car accident in Pennsylvania at the tender age of 23. Mendel was the son of shluchim in Leeds, UK, and sadly lost his father when he was young. He attended JETS for high school and RAP Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and then went on to join the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), where he served in the Givati Brigade. He was a kind-hearted boy who was loved and admired by all, and he will truly be missed.

Mendel’s untimely passing coincided with the first day of our Charidy campaign, and we were overwhelmed by the number of friends and classmates who contributed to JETS in Mendel’s honor. The outpouring of support demonstrated the impact Mendel has had on so many lives. We were struck by the strong sense of brotherhood that is formed at JETS, beyond the academic learning. JETS is more than a school, it is a family. In fact, several JETS students flew to the UK to attend the funeral and shiva. A fund has been set up to help the family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Krafchik family. May G-d comfort you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem, and may we soon be reunited with our loved ones with the coming of Moshiach.

Amen.
