Students learn through hands on training in an actual shop environment - Brakes & Front End. Students pursue Certificate of Completion and the course prepares them for the ASE Certification test.

FRONT – END MECHANIC/SUSPENSION, STEERING, AND BRAKES (PRE-EMPLOYMENT)
(Hours: 1200)

Course Description:

This competency-based course is designed to prepare students for employment as automotive alignment and brake mechanics. Emphasis is placed on theory and shop service operations; students are prepared for the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification exam.

  1. SAFETY
    Understand and apply safety rules, regulations, and procedures. (16 hours)
  2. STATE LICENSING LAWS
    Outline state licensing laws related to auto alignment and brakes. (6 hours)
  3. BRAKES/HYDRAULIC SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
    Understanding hydraulic Principles and services system components to manufacture’s specifications (100 hours)
  4. BRAKES/DRUM BRAKE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
    Service drum brakes to manufacturer’s specifications (100 hours)
  5. DISC BRAKE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
    Understand how to diagnose and repair disc brake system. (100 hours)
  6. BRAKES/POWER ASSIST UNITS DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR
    Service power brakes systems to manufacturer’s specifications. (60 hours)
  7. BRAKES/MISCELLANEOUS (WHEEL BEARINGS, PARKING BRAKES, ELECTRICAL, ETC.) DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
    Understand how to diagnose and repair miscellaneous brake systems. (80 hours)
  8. BRAKES/ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEMS
    Service anti-lock brake systems to manufacturer’s specifications following manufacturer’s procedures. (100 hours)
  9. SUSPENSION AND STEERING/STEERING SYSTEMS DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
    Service Systems diagnosis and repair suspension systems to manufacturer’s specifications. (120 hours)
  10. SUSPENSION AND STEERING /SUSPENSION SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR/FRONT SUSPENSION
    Understand how to diagnose and repair front suspension. (160)
  11. SUSPENSION AND STEERING/SUSPENSION SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR/REAR SUSPENSION
    Understand how to diagnose and repair rear suspensions system. (60)
  12. SUSPENSION AND STEERING/SUSPENSION SYSTEM S DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR/MISCELLANEOUS SERVICE
    Understand how to service miscellaneous suspension and steering components. (60)
  13. SUSPENSION AND STEERING/WHEEL ALIGNMENT DIAGNOSIS, ADJUSTMENT, AND REPAIRUnderstand ho to diagnose, adjust, and repair wheel alignment. (160)
  14. SUSPENSION AND STEERING/WHEEL AND TIRE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
    Understand how to diagnose and repair tires and wheels (40)
  15. AIRBAG SUSPENSION
    Service airbag suspension according to manufacture’s procedures and specifications. (30)
